Morrissey is set to launch his eagerly-awaited autobiography with a book signing in Sweden tomorrow (October 17).
The former frontman of The Smiths will apparently appear on the book’s European launch date in person at Akademibokhandeln Nordstan in Gothenburg to sign copies of his memoir. In the announcement, Morrissey fan site True To You added “No additional book signings are planned”. The cover of the book is pictured above.
The release of the book has been delayed numerous times in recent months and appeared to have been pulled entirely at the last minute following a “content dispute” between the singer and publisher. However, another statement published on True To You confirmed that the book will be available in the UK and Europe from October 17. A US release date has yet to be confirmed.
Morrissey: Autobiography was originally due for release on September 16 but a statement three days prior to that date explained that the book would no longer be available on that date and would not even be published by Penguin. However, Penguin subsequently released a statement of their own claiming that they will still release the book in the UK and Europe but not in America.
In 2011 a spokesperson for Penguin Books said Morrissey’s forthcoming autobiography was “a classic in the making”. During an interview in the same year, with BBC Radio 4’s Front Row, Morrissey said he wanted the book to come out on the Penguin Classic series, despite the book franchise normally only ever being bestowed on already-established literary classics rather than new titles.
Over the past year Morrissey has postponed and cancelled a host of tour dates because of his mother’s and his own ill health. He recently revealed that he nearly died earlier this year due to medical problems.
