LA hair-metal legends also promise to return next year
A topless and tattooed Lee yelled: “We’re doing some shots!” at the crowd before passing the bottle to the front row, telling people to take a shot and pass the bottle back, adding: “Promise you’ll be careful, it’s glass.”
During ‘Same Ol’ Situation (S.O.S.)’, screens by the side of the stage showed clips of naked women in pornographic films interspersed with contrasting footage of warzones and tanks.
Large white balloons with Crue written on the side were released during the song and were batted about across the crowd by fans.
Later in the set, frontman Vince Neil took to the stage alone and introduced his fellow band members, each of them coming back onstage when he said their name. When he called guitarist Mick Mars to join him, a dwarf holding a guitar came on instead, but Mars soon followed.
An excitable Neil then pledged to the audience that the band would be back at the festival in 2010.
“Motley Crue promises to come back next year,” said Neil to cheers, “it’ll make up for all the years we didn’t come here, how’s that?”
The set finished with an encore of ‘Home Sweet Home’, which saw Tommy Lee playing a grand piano.
Motley Crue played:
‘Kickstart My Heart’
‘Saints Of Los Angeles’
‘Too Fast For Love’/’On With The Show’
‘Mutherfucker Of The Year’
‘Same Ol’ Situation (S.O.S.)’
‘Looks That Kill’
‘Girls Girls Girls’
‘Home Sweet Home’
