Mumford and Sons to play festival shows with guest musicians after Marcus Mumford breaks hand

Harry Cargill and Chris Maas will help out on guitar and drums at the band's European gigs

Mumford and Sons are set to play their forthcoming European festival shows with a guest drummer and guitarist after frontman Marcus Mumford broke his hand.

The London based band had to cancel appearances last weekend at Denmark’s Northside Festival and Hultsfred Festival in Sweden, but will play their forthcoming shows at Germany’s Southside Festival (June 22) and Hurricane Festival (23), Rock-A-Field in Luxembourg (24) and a number of other European festivals, finishing up with Poland’s Open’er Festival (July 7), BBK in Spain (13) and Optimus Alive in Portugal (14), with two extra musicians filling in for Marcus.

Via a statement on their website, the band apologised for being unable to play the weekend’s shows, explaining that Marcus is “currently in a cast, and will be for the next few weeks.” They added:

The band have been working every minute they can over this past week with two old tour friends, Harry Cargill on guitar and Chris Maas on drums, to rehearse a set that will be sonically as close as possible to what you expect from a Mumford & Sons gig.

Mumford and Sons will head up four Stateside Gentlemen of the Road Stopover dates in August. Their new album is due for release on September 24 and is set to feature ‘Below My Feet’, ‘Whispers In The Dark’, ‘Ghosts That We Knew’ and ‘Lover’s Eyes’, which have all been played during live shows.

Mumford and Sons will release their tour film Big Easy Express on DVD on July 24. The film will also be available a month earlier via iTunes on June 26.
