Matt Bellamy and co played the song, which is included on the tracklisting for their forthcoming sixth studio album ‘The 2nd Law’, during their live comeback show in Cologne, Germany earlier this week (September 20).
The space rockers were playing their first live show since last year’s headline appearance at Reading Festival with a show at the 2000-capacity E-Werk venue and also debuted other new songs from ‘The 2nd Law’ including recent single ‘Madness’, their Olympic theme ‘Survival’ and album tracks ‘Supremacy’, ‘Animal’, ‘Save Me’ and ‘Follow Me’.
After the show, drummer Dominic Howard told NME: “The new stuff went down well, and we were nervous of course. For the first gig back you’re like, ‘Fucking hell, how do we do this again?’ But then we just relax into it, settle in and you look forward to the next one.”
For a full report on Muse’s comeback show, plus an interview with all three members of the band, check out next week’s issue of NME, which is on UK newsstands next Wednesday (September 26) or available digitally.
Earlier this week, meanwhile, Matt Bellamy revealed that he has been writing about his own private life on ‘The 2nd Law’ for the first time since the band’s 1999 debut album ‘Showbiz’, and also promised that he and his bandmates were always looking to break “new ground and find new sounds to play with”.
The Devon trio will tour the UK in October, playing five shows. The gigs begin at Glasgow’s SECC on October 24, before the band move onto London’s O2 Arena for two shows on October 26 and 27. They then play Birmingham LG Arena on October 30 before finishing up at Manchester Arena on November 1.
The band will also play the iTunes Festival this month, headlining London’s Roundhouse on September 30.
