MUSE ‘PLUG’ NEW MATERIAL

MUSE played a ‘secret’ live fan show in LONDON last night (February 12) and worked through several tracks from their forthcoming new album.

The band played a nine-song, 45-minute set at Sound in central London for several hundred winners of a competition run by local radio station Xfm. Aside from four songs from 1999 debut ‘Showbiz’, they played new tracks ‘Citizen Erased’, ‘New Born’, current single ‘Plug In Baby’, the set closer called simply ‘A New One’ and a cover of Nina Simone’s ‘Feeling Good’.

The new songs suggest the three-piece have moved on from ‘Showbiz’ with a harder, leaner more muscled metal feel, possibly due in part to US acts such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, with whom they toured the States last year.

Most striking though were ‘Citizen Erased’, owing a modular, somewhat prog-rock, debt to Radiohead’s ‘Paranoid Android’ and ‘A New One’, which has the making of a mangled classic.

The set list in full was:

‘Citizen Erased’

‘Sunburn’

‘Showbiz’

‘Feeling Good’

‘New Born’

‘Cave’

‘Muscle Museum’

‘Plug In Baby’

‘A New One’
