My Chemical Romance kick off Shockwaves NME Awards 2011

Band celebrate nominations with opening salvo

My Chemical Romance have kicked off the Shockwaves NME Awards 2011 ceremony at London‘s O2 Academy Brixton tonight (February 23).

The band, who are nominated for five awards, performed ‘Vampire Money’ and ‘Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)’ live to start the event.

Gerard Way and co adopted burglar chic for their performance – all wearing black balaclavas to accompany their jet black suits.

Both of the songs they played feature on their fourth LP, ‘Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys’, which is nominated in the Best Album category.

The New Jersey rockers are also nominated for Best International Band, Best Video (for ‘Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)’), Best Album Artwork, and singer Gerard Way is up for the Hero Of The Year gong.

‘Danger Days…’ is also nominated in the Worst Album category.

The ceremony is being hosted by comedian Angelos Epithemiou, while nominees up for awards include Arcade Fire, Foals, Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys.
