Gerard Way joins brother Mikey Way at Deryck Whibley And The Happiness Machines show
Three members of My Chemical Romance, including frontman Gerard Way, reunited at a gig last night (July 7).
Gerard Way was in Los Angeles at the Lyric Theatre to see brother Mikey play the last of three gigs with Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley and his new band The Happiness Machines. Also in the picture is My Chemical Romance guitarist Ray Toro and Whibley himself. The picture was posted on drummer Frank Zummo’s Instagram.
Whibley was admitted to hospital last year after his liver and kidneys collapsed as a result of years of heavy drinking and alcohol addiction. After being released from hospital, he recently revealed that his band are working on new music.
Whibley played three shows this week under the name Deryck Whibley And The Happiness Machines.
Mikey Way played bass at the gigs, recently posting on Instagram: “My dude, Deryck Whibley, is playing some shows around town and I’m looking forward to joining him for a few songs!”
Whibley recently said he is “dying to get onstage” despite difficulties walking or standing upright for sustained periods of time.
Following his hospitalisation last year Whibley revealed that Iggy Pop was helping him recover from an alcohol-related incident that left him in a coma for a week.
My Chemical Romance announced their split in 2013. Gerard Way released debut solo album ‘Hesitant Alien’ in 2014.
