New Model Army drummer ROBERT HEATON has passed away.

Heaton, who left the band in 1998, died unexpectedly yesterday (November 4). An inquest concluded he was suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Heaton co-wrote and performed NMA songs such as ‘Poison St’ and ‘Here Comes The War’, and wrote the music for the anthem ‘Green And Grey’.

He left the band in the late nineties suffering from a brain tumour, choosing after his recovery to promote live music in his hometown of Bradford. ‘Fresh Milk’ was his last scheme, in which he produced low-cost high quality live recordings for young bands.

He also composed film scores for independent films, and released music under the pseudonym ‘Gardeners Of Eden’.
