New Order to headline concert in honour of John Peel

The band will be joined by The Fall and Super Furry Animals

New Order are set to headline a concert in honour of the late John Peel.

The band will be joined by The Fall and Super Furry Animals for the show at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall on October 12.

Radio 1 are staging the gig which will also feature performances from Laura Cantrell, Jawbone, Misty In Roots and Venetian Snares.

The event will precede John Peel Day which is set to take place the following day.

Peel‘s widow, Sheila Ravenscroft, said she “was looking forward to what should be a terrific night”. She said she and her family had been to some “incredible gigs involving John over the years” at Queen Elizabeth Hall.

As previously reported on NME.COM the anniversary of Peel’s last show (October 13) is being celebrated by Radio 1 who are encouraging people to stage gigs up and down the country in his honour.

With 200 shows already signed up, the station has made the John Peel Day logo available as a download from their website so the smallest church hall gig to stadiums can take part.

Details and downloads for John Peel Day can be found at bbc.co.uk/Radio1.

Peel died on October 25 2004 whilst on holiday in Peru.
