Maynard James Keenan offers an encouraging update about the new Tool album

He says "Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1 track"

Maynard James Keenan has given an exciting update about the new Tool album.

The band’s last album was 2006’s ‘10,000 Days’ and rumours of a new album have long been circulating.

Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan has now confirmed that the band are working on that new album and that we’re closer than ever to finally hearing it.

Writing on Twitter, Keenan wrote: “Started getting music files from the boys w the word FINAL in the title a few months ago after 11 years of begging. That in theory means the tracks wont change out from under me while I’m trying to write stories and melodies to them. In theory. Still waiting for the FINAL on 1, …but way ahead.

“Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1. Someday we’ll track them. Long way from the finish line, but at least we’re closer. Meanwhile new @aperfectcircle release on 4/20. #whileyouwerewhiningiwasworking #theresyourupdate #eattheelephant #aperfectcircle2018.” You can see the tweets below.

Keenan previously said the reason for the album, which was anticipated for release this year, taking so long was his bandmates’ indecisiveness. He said: “I like to release records and write things a little more quickly than those guys like to write. Their process is very analytical.”

Back in December, Tom Morello told fans he had heard the new Tool album. Posting a photo of himself with part of the band on his Instagram page, he wrote:

“Had the honour of being the first outsider to hear new #TOOL music today!!” he wrote. “Still just instrumentals but sounded epic, majestic, symphonic, brutal, beautiful, tribal, mysterious, deep, sexy and VERY Tool.”
