Rapper pledges support for Mitt Romney in new track
Nicki Minaj has endorsed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in a new song.
The track, titled ‘Mercy’, and reworking the Kanye West track of the same name, is a collaboration with Lil Wayne. In it, Minaj says: “I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney/You lazy bitches is fucking up the economy.”
Members of the music community have more typically recently aligned themselves with the left-leaning Democrat party rather than the right-leaning, conservative Republicans. On Saturday (September 1) The National played a Democrat rally in Des Moines, Iowa. Minaj has not commented on whether the lyrics should be taken literally or if they are, in fact, spoofing the attitude of rich Americans.
Minaj has criticised Barack Obama’s government over the President’s healthcare reforms after actress Yvette Wilson died of cervical cancer while struggling to raise healthcare costs.
“What’s sad is that when Yvette was bringing home the bacon, the gov’t was probably taking millions. On her deathbed though, #Nowheretobefound,” she tweeted.
That should be a God given right! Even with Obama Care, too much involved. Just give FREE health care to all. @BarackObama what can we do?
Ironically, if elected, Romney promises to undo Obama’s healthcare bill and return to a market-driven, paid-for system. On his website, Romney states: “President Obama’s trillion dollar federal takeover of the US health care system is a disaster for the federal budget, a disaster for the constitutional principles of federalism, and a disaster for the American people.”
‘Mercy’ appears on Lil Wayne’s mixtape ‘Dedication 4’, which is available as a free download.
