Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor to launch new music streaming service with Beats By Dre

Daisy service will use maths to aid 'intelligent curation' Reznor says

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor is set to partner with Beats by Dre to set up a new music streaming service called Daisy.

Earlier this year (October 17), Reznor wrote on his Facebook page that he would be collaborating with the headphones company on a range of “interesting projects” and has now revealed in an interview with The New Yorker (via Pitchfork) that this will include a music streaming service which is planned to launch next year.

The service, he said, “uses mathematics to offer suggestions to the listener… [but also] would present choices based partly on suggestions made by connoisseurs, making it a platform in which the machine and the human would collide more intimately.”

Comparing the service to existing streaming services like Spotify, he added: “Here’s sixteen million licensed pieces of music, they’ve said, but you’re not stumbling into anything. What’s missing is a service that adds a layer of intelligent curation.” He then described Daisy as “like having your own guy when you go into the record store, who knows what you like but can also point you down some paths you wouldn’t necessarily have encountered”.

Reznor also stated in the interview that a Nine Inch Nails greatest hits compilation is also in the works, which will include two new songs. He has previously hinted that a new album is in the works.
