MGMT play their first-ever festival slot at Coachella

The duo's set is the hot ticket on Day Two

MGMT performed their first-ever festival slot yesterday (April 27) with a packed-out show in the Mohave tent at Coachella.

As the temperatures soared into the hundreds, the crowds piled into the sweltering tent for one of the most hotly-tipped shows of the weekend.

Opening with ‘Weekend Wars’, the duo were joined by a full band for their set, watched by a sweaty side-of stage VIP crowd including Agyness Deyn, Danny Masterson, Har Mar Superstar and Vampire Weekend.

Aside from introducing themselves, the young Brooklynites said little during their set but did give props to Coachella:

“This is our first festival, we’ve never actually played a festival before. But we think this is the best one to play.” Andrew Vanwyngarden told the crowd, to massive cheers.

The band appeared taken aback yet chuffed with the enormous crowd that spilled out on all sides, as they were barely able to contain their glee, sharing smiles throughout.

With just one album ‘Oracular Spectacular’ under their belt so far, the band stuck to tracks from that release, with a perfectly structured set bringing the performance to a rapturous crescendo with ‘Electric Feel’, ‘Time To Pretend’ and ‘Kids’.

At the end of the 40-minute set, the band completed their performance by jumping off stage and running out of the tent into the sunshine, returning only to thank the crowd.
