The Aussie rocker played a cover of ‘New Speedway Boogie’
Courtney Barnett appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Friday (May 27) to perform a cover of Grateful Dead’s ‘New Speedway Boogie’. You can watch the video of it below.
The track originally featured on the band’s 1970 album, ‘Workingman’s Dead’, but also appeared on the ‘Day of the Dead’ compilation, which was curated by Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National and was released last week (May 20).
2016 has been a busy year for Barnett, as the Aussie rocker was confirmed as one of the last musical guests for this season of Saturday Night Live alongside Drake earlier this month. She subsequently made her SNL debut last week with performances of ‘Pedestrian At Best’ and ‘Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go To The Party’, on a show that was hosted by Portlandia comedian Fred Armisen.
In April, Barnett was also named Australia’s songwriter of the year at the Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) awards, shortly after she beat Tame Impala and more to win the Australian Music Prize 2016 in March. Speaking when she accepted the award, she said, “I respect so many Australian artists so to be picked as the one that wins is pretty amazing.”
