Music fans swapping songs online could have their homes raided and computers seized if a new EU law is passed today (March 9).

A final vote is due on the EU Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Directive at the European Parliament.

The directive is an attempt to tackle professional pirates, but critics claim the measures can be used to target people who illegally share music online.

BBC news reports that companies will be allowed to raid property, seize computers and freeze bank accounts of those suspected of the offences.
