PETER GARRETT HOSPITALISED

Ex-Midnight Oil member taken ill over the weekend…

Australian rock star turned politician PETER GARRETT was hospitalised in SYDNEY over the weekend.

The former Midnight Oil singer, who in October was elected as a lawmaker for the opposition Labour party, collapsed during a Saturday morning swim, according to Billboard.

Garrett was taken from Maroubra Beach to the Prince Of Wales hospital, before being discharged later that day in advance of further tests.

Outside the hospital he told reporters: “It’s good to be back on my feet again. (There are) no obvious causes as to why this happened and we’ll get some more tests and checks done next week.”

Garrett’s political adviser Simon Balderstone told Sky News: “He’s very fit and healthy and it’s probably fair to say he’s a lot fitter and healthier than your average 51-year-old Australian male.”

Garrett, a committed environmentalist, enjoyed hits like ‘Beds Are Burning’ and ‘Blue Sky Mine’. The fiercely political band released their last album ‘Capricornia’ in 2002.
