The New Zealander will present the evening shows from Tuesday to Thursday...
XFM presenter ZANE LOWE has finally settled his long-running contract dispute with the LONDON independent radio station and will join RADIO 1 in July.
As previously revealed by NME.COM, New Zealander Lowe, also a VJ on MTV2, will front the Tuesday-Thursday slots, taking over from Colin Murray. It brings the curtain down on a long-running saga for Radio 1, that saw the station earmark Lowe as a replacement for indie stalwart Steve Lamacq when his departure was announced last August, only for Xfm to block the deal, insisting Lowe saw out the final year of his contract.
Murray was drafted in as a six-month substitute in January. He’ll now focus on his Saturday morning show which he will co-host with Edith Bowman. The show starts on Saturday (March 29).
Andy Parfitt, controller of Radio 1 was bullish today (March 26) announcing the appointment.
“Zane is one of the most exciting presenters I’ve seen or heard in years,” he said. “He has masses of energy and passion for the music which is infectious – which makes him absolutely the person to connect our listeners to the new bands and the artists that they really care about.”
