SWINGING 60

The 'Queen Mum' of broadcasting honoured by two days of programmes...

John Peel‘s 60th birthday will be marked next week by a themed night on BBC 2 on August 29 followed by a Radio 1 tribute on August 31.

The TV night includes the Jo Whiley fronted show The Lives And Times Of John Peel looking back at his life and career from his DJing origins in the US through pirate radio station Radio London‘s Perfumed Garden show in the mid 60s to Radio 1 via punk and beyond. There will also be archive film in Peel’s Sounds of the 60s&70s and Peel’s Sounds Of The 80s & 90s featuring everyone from T-Rex to The Fall who have been championed by Peel.

The Radio 1 specials run from 10pm until 2 am on August 31 and September 1 with classic Peel sessions and a look at John‘s personal jukebox.
