Melissa Auf Der Maur joins Chico Moreno on a special side project...

Melissa Auf Der Maur has become the first member of THE SMASHING PUMPKINS to announce details of solo work following the group’s imminent split.

The bass-player will sing on a track by Team Sleep, the side-project from Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno, according to the Deftones official website [url=]

Moreno was quoted as saying: “I wanted Melissa because I wanted a voice that sounded angelic.”

Team Sleep are made up of Moreno, guitarist Todd Wilkinson and DJ Crook.

Although no track details have been announced, it is believed that other Deftones members Frank Delgado (DJ) and Abe Cunningham (drums) will contribute to the group. Moreno has described the music as “very nocturnal, droney, ambient. It’s pretty experimental. I’m writing short, pop songs for the project, and blending organic sounds with electronic equipment. It’s kind of Massive Attack-ish.” Team Sleep are currently looking for a label, and hope to release an album next year.

Meanwhile, The Smashing Pumpkins have caused controversy by releasing their final album ‘MACHINA II/The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music’ free through the Internet.
