Drum and bass legend, Blur frontman and ‘Luther’ star among those honoured.
Goldie, Damon Albarn and Idris Elba have received awards in the 2016 New Year’s Honours list.
Drum and bass pioneer Goldie received an MBE for his contribution to music, TV and film industries as well as his charity work.
“Very very proud to announce that I have been awarded an MBE – Member of the Order of the British Empire. There are some amazing people on the list, happy to be in such great company. Thanks for all the kind words. It’s been a long journey and the beginning of a new one,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
On Twitter, he added: “Thank you to my unsung heroes / heroines Kemi Storm, Grooverider, Fabio, Doc Scott, Reinforced, Frost, Headz family and most of all my family.”
Elba, who invited Goldie to appear in his Channel 4 documentary ‘Idris Elba’s How Clubbing Changed the World’, was made an OBE for his services to drama. The ‘The Wire’ and ‘Luther’ star said that the honour was “beyond special”.
Blur frontman Damon Albarn was also made an OBE for his contribution to music. Albarn reunited the Britpop group in 2009, they released ‘Magic Whip’ their first studio in 12 years in April.
