Ride announce extended 25th anniversary version of debut album ‘Nowhere’

The re-release will also include a live DVD recorded in 1991

Oxford shoegazers Ride – who reformed in 2014 – have announced a re-release of their debut album ‘Nowhere’ to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

‘Nowhere’, released in October 1990, was released on Creation Records and is widely cited as a classic of the shoegaze genre. It reached Number 11 in the UK charts first time around, and was eventually classified silver in the UK.

The new version will feature a DVD recorded at a 1991 concert at the Town & Country Club in London (now The Forum).

Guitarist and vocalist Andy Bell, who went on to play with Oasis and Beady Eye, described the recording of the album as follows: “We were really driven, within the band, to improve on the songwriting, performances and production of the first two EPs, and create something special, an album which stood for our aesthetic and had a real artistic integrity.”

Drummer Loz Colbert added: “When we’d completed the album and it was all mixed and mastered, it seemed like we’d arrived, we’d made it… and what did that feel like? Nowhere.”

The new version of ‘Nowhere’ is due out on November 6. It will be presented in a hardback cardboard case with a canvas-style cover, and include a 36-page booklet full of unseen photos and brand new sleeve notes written by Bell, compiled using the help of Ride fans via a Twitter Q&A.
