'Royals' singer is the debut from a woman to have crossed the one million mark since Adele in 2011

Lorde‘s ‘Pure Heroine’ has now sold more than 1 million copies in the US.

According to Nielsen Soundscan, the ‘Royals’ singer’s debut album sold over 30,000 copies last week, taking its current total to 1.01milllion. Lorde has now become the first woman to have her debut cross the one million mark since Adele’s ’21’ in 2011.

Meanwhile, Bruce Springsteen covered Lorde’s ‘Royals’ during a concert in New Zealand yesterday (March 1).

The Boss was performing at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland, home of the Vodafone Warriors and Auckland Football Federation, when he broke into the song, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar and harmonica. You can watch fan-filmed footage of the performance below.

It was a largely faithful cover, although he did tweak a few of the original lyrics and refer to himself at “King B” in the chorus. Naturally, being Lorde’s home country, there was an ecstatic response from the crowd when they realised what he was playing.
