Lightspeed Champion, We Are Scientists, Kelly Osbourne arrive at Shockwaves NME Awards

Check out the latest dispatch from the red carpet in London

The Shockwaves NME Awards 2008 are currently getting underway, with guests starting to arrive ahead of this evening’s ceremony (February 28).

With the event taking place at the IndigO2 in London, we start dishing out awards from 5pm – and NME.COM will be bringing you all the action live.

Ahead of the ceremony’s start, we’ve hit the red carpet, catching up with the latest arrivals.

Here’s who is currently making their way down the red carpet:

Chris Cain, We Are Scientists

“What’s my best memory from last year? I had a drinking contest with a band whose name I won’t mention and it was five against one – me – and I doubled what they drank and they all ended up in hospital. Who? Kaiser Chiefs.”

Keith Murray, We Are Scientists

“This year I’m excited about meeting Daniel Craig and his date Sienna Miller. What do you mean they’re not coming? It must have been a ruse by our management to get us here.”

Dev Hynes, Lightspeed Champion

“I’ve never been invited before, so I’m pretty excited especially about the Big Gig. We were planning to dress as characters from ‘Indiana Jones’ but apparently all the costumes were taken for the film, so we’re doing something else.”

Kelly Osbourne

“How will this compare to the Brits? Well, I was working (at) the Brits, but this is definitely going to be more fun!”

Danny Dyer

“The Brits can fuck off!”

For all the awards coverage head to NME.COM/awards now. We have exclusive picture galleries, live webcams, minute-by-minute blogs straight from the ceremony and Big Gig and video interviews with the biggest names at the ceremony.

That’s just the beginning – the ceremony is being broadcast on E4 at 11pm (GMT) tonight (February 28), with highlights following tomorrow (29) on Channel 4 from 11.50pm.

Meanwhile, next week’s issue of NME – on UK newsstands from March 5 – will contain the ultimate coverage, interviews and photos from the 2008 Shockwaves NME Awards.
