Noel Gallagher and Rod Stewart voted among wittiest British celebrities

Musical pair chosen in poll by Leicester Comedy Festival

Noel Gallagher and Rod Stewart have been voted as two of Britain’s wittiest celebrities according to a new poll.

The High Flying Birds man and celebrated crooner both made the Top 10 on a list compiled by Leicester Comedy Festival, who asked users to vote for the funniest living non-comedians in the UK today.

Cycling champion and Olympic hero Bradley Wiggins took first place in the poll, with Mayor Of London Boris Johnson the runner-up. Singer Robbie Williams was in sixth place, one ahead of former Oasis chief Gallagher, while Stewart was voted eighth. Other celebrities to be included in the list included businessman Alan Sugar, TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson and actor Colin Firth.

Last month, two previously unreleased demos from Noel Gallagher, who recently revealed he suffers from tinnitus, were leaked online – you can listen to both ‘O’ Lord’ and ‘She Must Be One of Us’ now.

Gallagher will perform at a special a one-off gig for Comic Relief in London in March of this year. Kasabian and Jake Bugg will also play at the event, which takes place at Wembley Arena on Wednesday, March 6, and features comedians Jimmy Carr, Noel Fielding, Eddie Izzard Frankie Boyle, Simon Amstell, Doc Brown and former One Show host Jason Manford. Russell Brand will host the show.

Gallagher, Kasabian, Brand and Blur’s Damon Albarn & Graham Coxon are also set to appear at a series of gigs at the Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust in March.

Curated by Gallagher this year in The Who frontman Roger Daltrey’s absence, Paul Weller, Palma Violets, Primal Scream and Ryan Adams are also scheduled to perform at the gig run which takes place from March 19-25. For more information head to Teenagecancertrust.org.
