Gallagher has already shifted 55,000 copies of his solo debut

Noel Gallagher‘s debut album ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ is on course to take the Number One spot in the UK albums chart this weekend.

The ex-Oasis chief is going head to head with former X Factor winner Matt Cardle for the top spot this Sunday (October 23) and is currently well ahead in the race.

Gallagher has a significant lead over Cardle’s debut LP ‘Letters’ clocking up 55,000 sales compared to 28,000. But according to the Official Charts Company The X Factor star is expected to close the gap over the coming days as supermarket sales filter in.

Last week, the former Oasis guitarist’s pre-order album sales also suggested that he could take the top spot this weekend after figures showed that he was 13 per cent ahead of his rival.

He has also enjoyed significantly better pre-order sales than his brother Liam’s outfit Beady Eye did with ‘Different Gear, Still Speeding’.
