The surviving members of legendary hip-hop group NWA – excluding Dr Dre – reunited on Saturday night (June 27) for the first time in 15 years.
With NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton upcoming, rapper Ice Cube helmed plans for a live team-up. The performance took place at the aforementioned film’s premiere at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, as part of this year’s BET Experience event.

Despite Dre’s notable absence, the group’s former members MC Ren and DJ Yella performed alongside Ice Cube, with special guests Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg and Schoolboy Q also making appearances.
NWA formed in 1986 and disbanded in 1991. The group’s fifth member Eazy-E passed away in 1995. The band had a partial reunion in 2000, but Yella was not involved.

The promised NWA reunion did not happen at #BETX concert. Dr. Dre too busy launching Apple Music (?) (if I'm being nice)

Watched the NWA "reunion" on @periscopeco, all I can say is, looks like someone actually forgot about Dre…

Tonight there was an "NWA reunion" without Dre or Eazy for people who liked Caddyshack II without Dangerfield or Bill Murray.

Speaking to NME, Ice Cube was recently asked if making the film might inspire either a studio reunion or even a live comeback.
“I’d say don’t rule anything out,” he replied. “It could happen. Hopefully doing this record project will inspire Dre to make more records again. I think the movie will remind a lot of people the importance of who we were and what we did – including us. We’re here to give the people what they want so who knows what will happen after the movie.”
