The Oasis frontman takes part in the charity stunt to raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Oasis‘ Liam Gallagher has become the latest musician to take on the ice bucket challenge to raise awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Gallagher released a video of him performing the stunt via YouTube and, in turn, nominated his brother Noel to follow suit. Click above to watch the video.
“I accept this challenge and nominate Spongebob Squarepants, Ivor the Engine, and while we’re on cartoon characters, Noel Gallagher,” said Liam, posing on a motor scooter before being soaked with ice-cold water.
ALS is a terminal illness that causes muscles to weaken and stiffen. Artists including Lily Allen, Dr Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Lady Gaga, Iggy Azalea, Justin Timberlake and various others – as well as many members of the public – have joined in with the campaign.
The challenge originally started when former Boston College basketball player Pete Frates was forced to stop playing after developing ALS. He recruited teammates and players from baseball team the Boston Red Sox to perform the stunt in an effort to raise money for research into a cure. Since then, the stunt has rapidly spread via social media.
