'The Hindu Times' sells almost 120,000 to move Gareth Gates...

Oasis have entered at the top of the UK single chart today (April 21) scoring their sixth number one with ’The Hindu Times’.

With sales just over 116,000 they knock Pop Idol runner-up Gareth Gates from the perch he had held for four weeks. His version of ’Unchained Melody’ was bumped to four.

*NSYNC register their highest ever UK single chart hit going in at number two with ’Girlfriend’, their collaboration with Nelly. The single sold 53,000 copies.

Meanwhile, Doves too enjoy their biggest hit debuting at number three with ’There Goes The Fear’. Their previous peak position was at 32 in 2000 with ’The Man Who Told Everything’.

There are no other new entries on the top ten. A little further down, Pay As You Go enters at 13 with ’Champagne Dance’, two places above veterans New Order’ who chalk up their 19th hit with ’Here To Stay’, a track lifted from the soundtrack to film ’24 Party People’.

Meanwhile, The Streets -garage DJ Mike Skinner – goes in at number 30 with second single ’Let’s Push Things Forward’ and Pulp sneak in at 27 with 12th hit ’Bad Cover Version’.

There is little movement on the album chart, with no new entries on the top ten. Celine Dion stays at the top, while Blue sneak up to two with ’All Rise’.
