Tyler and co compare venue to football stadium as they blitz through 'OF Tape Vol. 2' material
Odd Future continued their short UK headline tour last night (29) with a sell-out show at London O2 Academy Brixton. The second date of the tour – which also stops at Manchester Academy (31) and O2 ABC Glasgow (April 1) – saw the LA collective play a nearly two hour set, including tracks from recently released LP ‘OF Tape Vol. 2’.
Entering to ‘Forest Green’ amid audience chants of “Wolf gang/Golf wang”, the group seemed impressed with the turnout, with Hodgy Beats comparing the venue to a football stadium and stating that “This is fucking big as fuck”. They then played a selection of cuts from their various collective and solo records including Mellowhype’s ’64’, ‘Lean’ (led by Hodgy Beats), ‘Rella’ and ‘Bitches’. Tyler, The Creator also performed a number of tracks from 2011’s ‘Goblin’ including ‘Transylvania’, ‘Tron Cat’, ‘Yonkers’ and ‘Sandwitches’ – taking centre-stage under a spotlight as the rest of the group moved back around the DJ decks.
Tyler sported a pink arm cast throughout the gig after injuring himself recently but seemed unhindered by the impediment, jumping into the crowd during ‘Fuck The Police’, performing a robot dance at the front of the stage and play-fighting with the rest of the group.
After ejecting a stray member of the crowd from the stage, OFWGKTA ended with ‘Pigeons’, continuing its infamous chant of “Kill people, burn shit, fuck school” as they exited.
The band also opened their latest pop-up shop in the capital’s Brick Lane on Wednesday (March 30), where they met fans and sold merchandise. To read a full report from the opening – including an exclusive interview with Tyler and other members of the group – pick up next week’s issue of NME, which is on UK newsstands and available digitally from next Wednesday (April 4).
