Is the rapper back from Samoa?
Odd Future member Earl Sweatshirt has seemingly returned from Samoa and has posted the new track ‘Home’ online – scroll down to the bottom of the page and click to listen to a preview.
The rapper’s whereabouts have been shrouded in mystery since last May, when it was revealed that he had been staying at the Coral Reef Academy on the South Pacific island of Samoa, and yesterday (February 8), Tyler, The Creator confirmed that Sweatshirt, whose real name is Thebe Kgositsile, would not be appearing on the collective’s forthcoming new album ‘OF Tape Vol 2’.
However, Tyler later posted a link to his fellow rapper’s new Twitter account, writing:
Oh. Thebe Has….I Mean Earl Has A Twitter. @earlxsweat
Sweatshirt then posted a preview to the song ‘Home’ and promised to upload the whole song when he had amassed 50,000 followers on the site. The track can now be streamed at Terrtlefer.com.
Despite Sweatshirt’s apparent return, Odd Future fans may be wary. In November last year, Tyler claimed that the rapper had left Samoa and was back in Los Angeles, before he later revealed it was a hoax and declared himself to be the “biggest troll of 2011”.
Odd Future release ‘OF Tape Vol 2’ on February 20. The album will be just one of a slew of Odd Future-related LPs to be released this year, with Tyler, The Creator’s ‘Wolf’ – the follow-up to last year’s ‘Goblin’ – set to drop in May. Fellow Odd Future member and singer Frank Ocean is also planning on releasing an album this year, while Mellowhype – the side-project from Hodgy Beats and Leftbrain – are expected to release a second record in 2012.
