Boyband shift 145,000 copies of new album 'Midnight Memories' in just three days

One Direction are outselling Gary Barlow by three copies to one in this week’s race for the Number One in the Official Albums Chart spot.

Official Chart Company data reveals that the X Factor boyband’s latest album ‘Midnight Memories’ sold a massive 145,000 copies in its first three days on sale and looks almost certain to be Number One when the winner of this week’s chart battle is revealed on BBC Radio 1 this Sunday (December 1).

As well as comprehensively outselling Barlow’s solo album ‘Since I Saw You Last’, One Direction have also sold more copies of ‘Midnight Memories’ than the rest of the top five combined.

Elsewhere in the Official Album Chart, Robbie Williams ‘Swings Both Ways’ falls two places to three. The album became the UK’s 1000th Official Number One when it hit the top spot last week. Other new entries are due from Boyzone (5), Susan Boyle (7), Mary J Blige (22), Dido (28), A Day To Remember (34), Wet Wet Wet (36) and Poppy Girls (38).

New entries in the Official Single Chart at today’s (November 27) midweek stage come from Calvin Harris‘s ‘Under Control’, a collaboration with Alesso and Theo Hutchcraft of Hurts. ‘Under Control’ is at Number One ahead of the next highest entry at Number Two, McFly’s ‘Love On The Radio’.

Other new entries at this week’s midweek stage include Breech (7), Afrojack (14), Justin Bieber (21) and Olly Murs (23). On top of their Album Chart domination, One Direction secure six new entries coinciding with the release of new album ‘Midnight Memories’ – ‘Don’t Forget Where You Belong’ (10), ‘You & I’ (11), ‘Strong’ (25), ‘Midnight Memories’ (29), ‘Diana’ (34) and ‘Best Song Ever’ (36).
