Sir Paul McCartney: ‘I didn’t have a heart operation’

Ex-Beatles man rejects media reports that he had surgery

Sir Paul McCartney has corrected recent media reports that he had heart surgery over the festive period.

On January 2 The Sun newspaper claimed that McCartney had a coronary angioplasty. They quoted “a source” as saying: “It was all very routine, but any work on your heart is a big deal.”

However, writing on his website, the legendary songwriter explained that he did not have surgery. He wrote that he had tests for a “minor irregularity” which he was assured was “fine”.

“The media have only just recently reported an exaggerated version of this and that is why people have been asking me if I am OK,” he said.

“I would like to thank all of you and my friends and relatives for your concern and I’m very happy to put your minds at rest.”

The star added: “I have secretly been enjoying all the sympathy.”
