“I only ever want to release music that I feel adds something new to the world, however small,” Smith says in a press release. “I’m confident that ‘Contradictions’ is an alternative pop record that fulfils my own criteria.”

Prior to the album’s release, Smith has shared lead track ‘Coney Island (4th of July)’, the video of which you can stream below. “Coney Island is a terribly romantic place,” he said of the inspiration behind the track.

Smith’s band Maximo Park recently announced a UK tour this November, playing ‘A Certain Trigger’ in full to celebrate the debut’s 10-year anniversary. The Newcastle band, who released fifth LP ‘Too Much Information’ last year, have also remastered the album, along with B-sides and demos collection ‘Missing Songs’, for release on limited-edition vinyl on October 30.

The tour dates are as follows

London Roundhouse (November 17)
Manchester Albert Hall (18)
Newcastle City Hall (19)
Glasgow Barrowland (20)
