The Modfather to be honoured later this month
Paul Weller is to be named this year’s Shockwaves NME Awards Godlike Genius.
The Modfather, formerly of The Jam and Style Council and now a solo artist, will pick up the top prize at this year’s ceremony on February 24, before closing the show at the O2 Academy Brixton in south London. Jarvis Cocker will host this year’s event.
“I’m very happy to accept the award, I don’t feel godlike or a genius but I’m happy to have it,” declared Weller.
NME Editor Krissi Murison said: “Paul was first on the cover of NME with The Jam in 1977. Three decades on he remains just as influential – and this connection with the current music scene makes him all the more godlike.”
Listen to NME Radio from 4pm (GMT) on Wednesday (February 10) for an exclusive interview with Weller. To tune in head to Sky Channel 0184, Virgin Media 975, Freesat 727, DAB nationwide or via NME.com/radio.
