Pet Shop Boys part with Parlophone and announce release of new album

'Electric', the group's 12th album, will be released in June

Pet Shop Boys have revealed that they have left Parlophone Records after 28 years and will release a new album via music publisher Kobalt Label Services in June.

The duo, famous for their hits ‘West End Girls’ and ‘Always On My Mind’, made the announcement today (March 14) and said details of their 12th studio album, the Stuart Price-produced ‘Electric’, will be unveiled soon.

The move comes just a month after it was announced that Warner Music Group had bought the Parlophone record label for £487 million. The electro duo have sold 50 million records since releasing their first single on Parlophone in 1985.

In a statement, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe said: “We are hugely proud of the new album and are very pleased to be working in conjunction with Kobalt. We’d like to thank everyone we’ve worked with at Parlophone over the last 28 years both in the UK and abroad.

“When we signed to the label in 1985 we had no idea how long and successful a relationship we were embarking on. However it is also exciting now to commence a new phase working with a new team in a new business structure and we look forward to a creative and equally fulfilling relationship with Kobalt.”

Fans will be able to catch the duo live in the UK later this year. Pet Shop Boys will play London’s O2 Arena on June 18 and Manchester’s Evening News Arena on June 20.
