Former Libertines man also dubs recent London riots 'insane'
The former Libertines man told Blagsound.com that he had previously recorded an alternate version of the track from the late singer’s 2006 album ‘Back To Black’ but it never saw the light of day. Scroll down and click below to watch a video of the singer talking about the track.
A couple of years ago when she first released it there was an idea kicked about that I was going to do an alternate version. I did actually write some alternate verses and record them but in the end no-one seemed to like it so it disappeared. But I’ve always loved that song, it’s a fucking amazing tune and I’ve always wanted to do some tribute.
Doherty also commented on the recent riots after getting caught up in them in Camden.
It was almost like a magnified version of things you see every Saturday night in Hackney, just wild kids lashing out. It was pure fucking anger. You’ve got politicians who fill in their expenses behind closed doors on their account sheets and then you’ve got kids in broad daylight fighting police and attacking shops. The whole system is corrupt right the way through.
Doherty went on:
What got me was the people getting into Ladbrokes leaping up on walls and trying to rip off the LCDs. It was insane. It’s not like it’s not on though. It’s almost like the perfect reaction to the consumers in society that we live in. They’ve been asking for it. It was terrifying though.
