The station's flagship annual music event will take place on May 24 and 25

Radio 1’s Breakfast Show DJ, Nick Grimshaw announced this morning (March 24) that Pharrell Williams and The 1975 are to join the line-up for Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

They are to appear alongside Paolo Nutini and Rita Ora at the free event, which is taking place at Glasgow Green on May 24 and 25. Throughout the next month Radio 1 will reveal the full line-up and headline artists.

Pharrell said: “Over the years I’ve been in awe of the amazing world class talent at the event and to know that I will be a part of it this year is so humbling.”

BBC radio 1 Breakfast Show host Nick Grimshaw said: “We have one of the most important producers and artists joining us in Glasgow!” He also expressed his excitement at The 1975 joining the bill, adding that they are “now a staple part of Radio 1”.

50,000 tickets are to be made available from 8am on Monday 31st March on a first-come, first-served basis.

The weekend will be kicked off on the Friday night by a party in Glasgow’s George Square, with Radio 1 DJ’s Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Zane Lowe and Danny Howard joined by some of the world’s biggest DJs.
