'Alone On Christmas Day' will be released on December 4

Phoenix have previewed their upcoming Christmas single featuring actor Bill Murray.

The French band have recorded ‘Alone On Christmas Day’ as part of Netflix’ A Very Murray Christmas, which will be available to view from Friday (December 4). The song is a cover of an unreleased Beach Boys outtake from 1977. A short burst of the song can be heard in the video below.

Released on 7-inch vinyl, the A-side will see Murray perform the track with Phoenix, Jason Schwartzman, former Letterman musical director Paul Shaffer, and New York Dolls’ David Johansen under his Buster Poindexter alias.

A Very Murray Christmas was directed by Sophia Coppola, who is married to Thomas Mars of Pheonix. The hour long show features an all-star cast including Jenny Lewis, George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Michael Cera, Miley Cyrus, Chris Rock, Jason Schwartzman and Maya Rudolph.

Written by Coppola, Murray and Mitch Glazer, creator of TV’s Magic City, the special is billed as “an homage to the classic variety show”.

Murray will star as himself, panicking that none of the guests will be able to make his TV show after New York is hit by an extreme snowstorm. However, through a combination of “luck and perseverance”, the guests eventually join him at the city’s Carlyle Hotel, where “dancing and singing in holiday spirit” ensures.
