POLLY’S A WORTHY CONTENDER

It seems the modern-day Patti Smith is well up for her first appearance at Worthy Farm in six years...

PJ HARVEY has been approached to play at GLASTONBURY 2001.

According to the Radio 1, Harvey was approached by festival organiser Michael Eavis to play the festival next summer, something which she is keen to do.

She said: “It does seem that we can do that. I love Glastonbury it’s my favourite festival and whenever I can do it I want to do it.”

Harvey said that Glastonbury is the festival she would like to play most because of the sponsorship of the other UK festivals. She added: “I do want to look into those kind of things. I do live a bit with my head in the clouds and until people inform me of that stuff I don’t know it’s happening – I do care very much about that and if I don’t agree with it I won’t do it.”

Harvey last played at Glastonbury in the summer of 1995, performing on the main stage below Orbital and Pulp.

PJ Harvey’s only confirmed UK shows so far next year are at the London Shepherd’s Bush Empire on February 11-13. However, she is also rumoured to be supporting U2 on some dates of their world tour next year.

Next year’s Glastonbury Festival has a tentative date of June 22-24, subject to licence.
