Prince’s family announce official tribute concert in Minneapolis

Performers will be announced shortly, in batches

Prince‘s family have announced an official tribute concert in the late icon’s honour.

The concert will take place at the US Bank Stadium in the musician’s hometown of Minneapolis on October 13, with tickets going on sale next month. Performers are to be announced shortly, in batches.

“We are excited for the opportunity to bring everyone together for the official family celebration of Prince’s life, music and legacy, and there is no better place to do it than his hometown of Minneapolis,” Prince’s family said in a statement to the Associated Press.

“We are honoured by the artists who will pay tribute and grateful to those that have worked so hard to make this celebration possible.”

Prince died at his Paisley Park complex in Minneapolis on April 21 from an overdose of prescription drugs. He was 57 years old. Madonna and Stevie Wonder paid tribute to him at the following month’s Billboard Music Awards, thought not everyone felt their performance was entirely fitting, while D’Angelo, Sheila E., the Roots and Janelle Monae were involved in a tribute performance at the BET Awards in June.

Meanwhile, Prince’s family have announced that Paisley Park is to be turned into a tribute museum for fans.
