Lianne La Havas reveals what it’s like to have Prince perform at your house – watch

The Purple One hosted a press conference at the singer's house yesterday

Lianne La Havas has revealed what it was like having Prince host a press conference in her London home yesterday (February 4) – watch it above.

The Purple One showed up at her house in Leyton, east London, last night to host the press conference for his new 3rd Eye Girl band.

Speaking to NME at her home, La Havas explains how her house was taken over yesterday by workmen, who removed the furniture from her frontroom and installed a smoke machine.

“Then they installed a lighting rig, there was a purple light outside, they bought flowers and vases,” she says. “They had a rider for him upstairs, there was catering in the kitchen for everyone – sandwiches. Sainsbury’s sandwiches and cookies, but it was good quality stuff. BLTs, egg and cress.”

Prince arrived at 8pm with his band, for a private audience with just three journalists. “He went straight up and had some tea, which I made,” explained La Havas, who added that he took his tea with “honey and no milk”. She continued: “He came down when he was ready and they all sat at their instruments and they just answered questions as honestly as they could. It was punctuated with some live music. He played his new single, ‘PretzelBodyLogic’ without singing, it was all acoustic – so instead of a full kit there were some bongos and an acoustic bass and an acoustic guitar. It was lovely.”

La Havas then travelled with Prince to Camden’s Electric Ballroom for a show in front of a specially invited audience of Lianne’s friends and family. “He went straight onstage for soundcheck. I went out to look after all my friends that I’d got in and my father was on his way, so I made sure he was OK.” The audience included members of Mumford & Sons.

La Havas explained that Prince had told her to invite friends to his official, full-length show tonight, but she asked if her father could attend yesterday’s soundcheck. “He said to me, ‘This is not the proper show – invite people tomorrow,’ but I said, ‘Can my dad come at least’ and he was like, ‘Of course’,” explained La Havas. “Because no-one could really fit safely in my house for the conference, he said, ‘Just get them all to come to the Electric Ballroom instead.'”

Lianne La Havas released her debut, Mercury Prize-nominated album ‘Is Your Love Big Enough?’ in 2012.
