Snapchat adds a ‘Purple Rain’ filter in honour of Prince

Users have been posting photos with purple raindrops in tribute

Snapchat have added a ‘Purple Rain’ filter in tribute to Prince, who died earlier today.

The app has been updated with a new feature that allows users to add purple raindrops to their photos, in honour of the musician’s famous album and film.

Fittingly, it was raining in Prince’s hometown of Chanhassen, Minnesota in the hours after news of his death broke. People have been sharing images of the downpour with the hashtag #PurpleRaining.

While the heavens were opening up in Minnesota, NASA posted a photo from the skies much further above of a purple nebula.

Nile Rodgers, Shania Twain, Frank Ocean, President Barack Obama and many, many more have paid tribute to the star on social media.
