Pulp frontman will speak alongside artist Gavin Turk at Queen Elizabeth Hall
Jarvis Cocker is to host a talk on ‘What Celebrity Does to Identity’ as part of the London Literature Festival 2013 tonight (May 24).
The Pulp frontman will appear at Queen Elizabeth Hall alongside artist Gavin Turk to discuss what fame really means, the cult of personality and the construction of artistic myth. Journalist and broadcaster Miranda Sawyer will be on hand to provide questions for both Turk and Cocker with the event starting at 7:45pm. Tickets are available now. Other highlights on the London Lit Festival include readings from authors Barbara Kingsolver, Audrey Niffenegger, Lionel Shriver and William Dalrymple.
Meanwhile, Jarvis Cocker will appear at another London arts centre, Barbican, in July for a special performance with Beck. the US singer is bringing his ‘Song Reader’ album to London in July for a one-off performance including guests Franz Ferdinand.
‘Song Reader’ is a book of sheet music, which was released in December 2012. It includes 20 songs and more than 100 pages of art. Beck’s idea for the release is that the listener becomes the artist, with all 20 songs open to interpretation by different individuals.
The line-up for the night will include Beck himself, alongside Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, Franz Ferdinand and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
