Azalea recently accused of misappropriating black culture

Q-Tip has sent a series of tweets to Iggy Azalea that outlines the A Tribe Called Quest rapper’s thoughts on the history of hip-hop.

Azalea has recently been involved in a toxic back-and-forth with New Yorker Azealia Banks who has accused the Australian of picking and choosing from black culture but ignoring larger issues, such as protests sparked by the deaths of African-Americans Eric Garner and Michael Brown at the hands of police.

Taking to Twitter yesterday (December 20), Q-Tip began posting about the genesis of hip-hop in the 1970s. While his first messages were intended for nobody in particular, he soon corrected himself and re-started the series by tweeting directly to Azalea.

“You have to take into account the HISTORY as you move underneath the banner of hiphop,” wrote the 44-year-old.

Below is the thread. Azalea has yet to respond.

@IGGYAZALEA HipHop is a artistic and socio-political movement/culture that sprang from the disparate ghettos of NY in the early 70’s
