'We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service' received 0 nominations for next year's ceremony
A Tribe Called Quest‘s Q-Tip has slammed the Grammys after the hip-hop group’s final album was snubbed by organisers.
The pioneering group released their final album, ‘We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service’, last November. The record also marked ATCQ’s first release since the death of founding member and MC Phife Dawg in March 2016.
With that album eligible for nomination at the 2018 Grammys, Q-Tip has responded with surprise and shock after ‘We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service’ failed to bag a single nod in yesterday’s nominations announcement.
Sharing a link to a series of Instagram videos with the tweet “Fuck da Grammys!!!”, Q-Tip then elaborated on his disappointment at ATCQ not being nominated.
“We were the most black, cultured group out,” he said. “That’s all we stood on. That’s what we represented, This last Tribe album, this stands with everyone else’s shit that’s up there. I don’t give a fuck.”
Q-Tip also mentioned Tribe’s performance at the 2017 Grammys, saying: “I’m sick of y’all fuckin’ Grammy n****s, man. Ya’ll get us get out there to perform last year and close and shit, and y’all don’t get us no fucking nominations?”
A Tribe Called Quest are still due to split up for good after what was billed as their “final ever performance” took place at Bestival back in September.
