The Queens Of The Stone Age frontman also compares Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner to a yoga instructor
Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has said he reckons people think he’s an “evil dictator”.
The musician and vocalist said to GQ: “I think people believe I’m some kind of evil dictator sometimes. But I don’t much care about that. I’m not politically correct, I never said I was. I made a lot of hard decisions in my life. Sometimes hard decisions have to be made and sometimes wonderful decisions have to be made. You’ve got to be willing to make them all. You can’t just avoid stuff that’s necessary.”
In the interview Homme also discussed his love of hip-hop. “I love Ol’ Dirty Bastard – but doesn’t everybody?” he said. “It’s a shame he’s gone from the world as his particular brand of crazy was really exciting for me.”
He also compared Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner to a yoga teacher, saying: “I think much like a yoga instructor he’s always stretching himself and he’s finding new places to reach. He’s willing to take big risks and I really respect that and think it’s the way to do it.”
Josh Homme also speaks to NME as part of the cover feature for this week’s magazine. In it he explains how Nick Oliveri came to record with Queens Of The Stone Age for the band’s new album ‘… Like Clockwork’. The band’s former bassist, who previously worked with Homme in the band Kyuss, left Queens Of The Stone Age in 2004 amid rumours he had been violent towards his then girlfriend.
Homme says: “It’s just friends, you know. And that’s good enough for me. It’s what it is, not what it was. I know people get hung up on stuff but what am I supposed to do, go door to door and explain the situation?”
Queens Of The Stone Age will be live streaming their gig at The Wiltern in Los Angeles tomorrow (May 23). The band will be performing their forthcoming new album ‘…Like Clockwork’ in full, before playing a selection of classic material at the show, which is their first North American performance of the year, following an appearance at Lollapalooza Brazil this spring. The sold-out concert will be streaming via NPR at 8pm [PT] on May 23 or 4am [BST] on May 24.
The band have compiled all of their recent animated videos into a 15-minute promo for ‘…Like Clockwork’.
