R Kelly spokesperson denies singer was replaced by lookalike for Louisiana event

Fans in US complained that the a personal appearance on Saturday (October 26) did not feature the real singer

A spokesperson for R Kelly has confirmed that it really was the R&B singer who performed at a Louisiana event this weekend following rumours he sent a lookalike in his place.

Fans in Louisiana were demanding refunds after claiming an impersonator appeared in place of the R Kelly at the Monroe Civic Centre on Saturday night (October 26). There was initial confusion as to whether R Kelly was ever due to play live on the night, with fans saying a live performance was advertised and promoters denying the claims.

However, a spokesperson for R Kelly has now confirmed that it was the singer, famed for hits including ‘Ignition (Remix)’ and ‘I Believe I Can Fly’, who appeared on stage in Louisiana. Pitchfork reports that, “A representative for R Kelly reached out to us, saying the person at the event was indeed R. Kelly. They also note that the event was billed as featuring an ‘appearance’ from R Kelly, not as a full concert.”
