R Kelly records tribute to victims of Sandy Hook shooting – listen

'I Know You Are Hurting' available for download now

R Kelly has recorded a tribute to those killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting on Dec 14, 2012.

‘I Know You Are Hurting’ is his tribute to the children of Newtown, Connecticut. It’s a spiritual song featuring a children’s choir. While Kelly wrote the words, he doesn’t actually sing on the song. “I know you’re hurting. I hear you crying, but come tomorrow, there’s a place you can go. Find the blue skies. Hear the choir sing. Feel the power of a miracle,” sings the choir.

Adam Lanza, aged 20, killed 26 people in the incident in Newtown, 20 of whom were under the age of 10. Prior to his arrival at the school, he also killed his mother Nancy. The incident has sparked debate in the US about gun ownership, specifically in relation to automatic weapons. The shooting was the 16th mass shooting in the US during 2012, with a total of 88 dead as a result.

Late last year Kelly revealed his plans for forthcoming album ‘Black Panties’, comparing it to his 1993 debut ’12 Play’. In an interview with Billboard, he said: “I wish I had this musical trailer to show you, but I don’t. But I’ll tell you what, it’s a mixture of ’12 Play’, ‘TP-2.com’ [from 2000], and a little bit of [2004’s] ‘Happy People’.”

The Sandy Hook tribute song is now available to download now.
