R&B singer 'laid up indefinitely' in hospital after operation
R Kelly has undergone emergency throat surgery to drain an abscess on one of his tonsils.
The ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ singer will be “laid up indefinitely” at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago after going under the knife, Reuters reports.
A statement from his representative revealed that Kelly was rushed into theatre after recently complaining of throat pain.
Writing on his Twitter account, Twitter.com/kellzodiac, last week (July 13), the singer revealed he had been feeling under the weather, tweeting: “I refuse to take another cup of theraflu! I feel like my throat is coming back. I’ve been in bed sweating like crazy.”
He recently completed the US leg of his ‘Love Letter’ world tour, which also included his first UK dates in nine years. His representatives have said it’s not clear when he will be able to perform again.
Last month, Kelly‘s former manager [Jeff Kwatinetz launched a $1 million (£618,000) lawsuit against the singer.
Kwatinetz is claiming that Kelly owes him commission for resurrecting his career in recent years.
