Radiohead’s Thom Yorke: ‘Remix culture is healthy for music’ – audio

Singer opens up about band's forthcoming 'The King Of Limbs' remix album

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has opened up about the band’s forthcoming ‘The King Of Limbs’ remix double album and said he believes the current “culture of remixing” is healthy for music.

The band are due to release ‘TKOL RMX 1234567’ featuring 19 remixes on October 10 from Caribou, Four Tet, Modeselektor and The xx‘s Jamie xx and they have been releasing a series of 12-inch remix EPs in recent weeks. “The remix 12-inches came out of us wanting to experiment with the tunes further,” Yorke told Radiohead fan website ateaseweb.com. I was really curious to see how the people I was listening to so much would use what we gave them. I didn’t just want floorfillers and all that shit, I just wanted to see how the songs could really branch out and mutate.

“I love that there is such a culture of remixing at the moment, all this flow of ideas,” Yorke added. “It may come out of the club scene but to me there is a lot more to it than that.

“I think it appeals to us as a band at the moment that ideas and versions are not so fixed and set in stone, it feels kind of healthy for music.”

Radiohead recently kicked off the 37th series of Saturday Night Live at the weekend.
